Today is, Bizarro Spaghetti Dinner Day!

Acclaimed Bizarro fiction author, Jordan Krall invites YOU to join us in celebrating, Bizarro Spaghetti Dinner Day!

Below is a press release from Jordan Krall:

April 16 is BIZARRO SPAGHETTI DINNER DAY! (aka Fistful of Feet Day!)

It’s a little over 6 months since my bizarro spaghetti western novel FISTFUL OF FEET was published by Eraserhead Press. Since then, I’ve gotten a lot of good feedback on it not only from Spaghetti Western fans but from people who generally don’t like westerns.

But I need your help.

I’m going for a record. Maybe not a world record but a record nonetheless. I want to see if how close FISTFUL OF FEET can come to being the bestseller in ANY category whatsoever. How cool would it be if a BIZARRO book was the #1 Bestseller in the Western category even just for one day? Move over Louis L’amour!

Because of the Amazon algorithms, if enough copies of FISTFUL OF FEET are sold in one day, they’ll realize how cool the book is and they’ll put it in the spotlight. The SPOTLIGHT! (I’ve never been in the spotlight before. Help me out!)

Which brings me to the event….the BIZARRO SPAGHETTI DINNER DAY!

Well, I’ll be honest. There’s no actual spaghetti. Or dinner.

But what you do get is the satisfaction that you’re helping not only me but other bizarro authors by association. The more people hear about (and buy) my book, the more they are exposed to all the other great bizarro authors such as Eric Mays, Kevin Shamel, David W. Barbee, Garrett Cook, Andersen Prunty, and all the other cool-as-hell people who have helped make the Bizarro genre what it is today.

Small press authors need people like YOU to help us survive.

So how can you help?

On APRIL 16, go to Amazon and purchase FISTFUL OF FEET:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/1933929898/

If you’ve already done that, thank you SO much. You can have the satisfaction of helping a starving artist pay the bills so he could continue to write bizarro fiction. Do you know anyone who likes weird fiction? Consider buying them a copy of FISTFUL OF FEET or buy another copy and donate it to the library.

Also, on APRIL 16 tell all your friends about this event. Talk to your friends on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. Let them know how cool the book is and how much they’ll like it. Tell your friends to tell THEIR friends and so on.

Lastly, you can join this group on Facebook if you haven’t already. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=113384858673927#!/group.php?gid=113384858673927

We are trying to get 10,000 people who think bizarro fiction is AWESOME.

So join me on APRIL16 for BIZARRO SPAGHETTI DINNER DAY!

I’ll appreciate any help you can give. Thanks in advance and I hope you can make this bizarro “spaghetti dinner”!

New Chapters & Breaking Up.

Howdy, friends!

Very long time no blog. = ( I deeply apologize. I am pleased to say that I am finally caught up on freelance work! WOOT! I’m enjoying my mini-vacation and wanted to take a moment to blog about…something. LOL.

What’s new in Ben’s world? Hmm… Shooting of the short film based on my short story, (dying to know which one? Haha!) is delayed but will start soon. I can’t wait to get some pics of the actual short film making process.

Other than that, not to get too personal-I had to break it off with my G/F, Amber yesterday. Trust me, she is an AMAZING woman. She is just great, period, paragraph. It ended well. We just cannot be together anymore. Simple as that. It hurts, but today I am feeling A LOT better and so is she. A new chapter has begun in my life indeed!

Other than that, catching up on book reviews, starting a study course for a network engineering certification, and saving the world from evil. Oops…did I say saving? I meant to say enslaving! ßevil laugh ensues.

One of my favorite shorts, “Worry Stone” was rejected by the press I submitted it to. = ( Oh well, it happens to us writer-types. Hell, I could do an entire blog about how the genre-fiction scene is going through changes-much like it was almost twenty years ago. Every time I look at duotrope, or ralan, there are less and less presses listed. Not only does this suck for the myriad of fans out there, it also makes it very difficult for us writer-types to get anything accepted. = ( But rest assured, “Worry Stone” will be re-submitted and I know it will find a good home soon. ; )

But have no fear! I still have two stories, (they happen to be my personal favorites of all time) waiting on a (final answer) from a certain press. Wish me luck! They are titled: “A Picturesque Moment” and “Stray.” The latter, in my humble opinion happens to be my favorite of them all.

My first novella is almost finished! I must say, this is the funnest time I have had writing…ever…period. I give it another month at the most. Then comes the critiques LOL… and everything else that really helps shape it up. ; ) I have poured everything I have into this novella. Even if it fails, which it may, you never know with these things, I can safely say: I had a blast with it!

So what is new with all my peeps that actually read this site? Feel free to sound off in the comment section. ; )

Until then…

Shroud Magazine Reviews, “Friday Night In Beast House” by, Richard Laymon

Enjoy!

Friday Night In Beast House by, Richard Laymon

Long Time No Blog. = (

This week has been a mother fucker. My girlfriend’s son brought a flu/cold home from daycare and we both got sick. Mine however morphed into something out of an, H.P. Lovecraft story and became a sinus infection. Due to me being on so many antibiotics for a long time, I decided to bite the bullet and wait it out, let my immune system take care of it, build it up again. WRONG answer! So my sick ass wound up in the clinic today. My throat looks like tungsten-carbide drills had at it, so does the inside of my sinuses. So I’m back on antibiotics. Yay! LOL.

Since my day job, (who am I kidding? Information Technology is a 24/7 job), is freelance work, I am REALLY behind on that. My clients are not happy. To them I have this to say as, Walter Kronkite used to say: “And that’s the way it is.”

I have some really trippy-cool updates coming soon. I’m working with a Barnes & Noble in my area to schedule a reading of my short stories. WOOT! Once the date is set in stone, feel free to stop by and have a listen to my favorite stories. Most of which are still waiting on an acceptance or rejection. The manager told me it is rare they allow someone without a book, or collection of fiction to hold a “meeting” like this. That is until I pointed out my work exists in one periodical and two anthologies they carry. In the end, he said sure. Ha ha! With all honesty, I wanted to do this because it is so fun! I have attended readings by many authors, Stephen King, Joe Hill, Clive Barker and many, many, many others. It’s always fun to see the reaction from the crowd. The latter is what I’m really looking forward to.

I have one last carrot to hold out in front of you. I have been working with certain people at the acclaimed film/music/art school, Full Sail. I won’t say which short story yet, but it looks like I am getting a short film based on one of my short stories made for free. Essentially students take on projects like this for class. I’m very happy they loved the story and feel so strongly about it. Trey has an amazing vision as a director. I have full and total confidence in his abilities. I can’t wait until shooting starts. We both collaborated on the screenplay, which was totally new to me. So a big thank you to Trey for helping me see the forrest through the trees. And also for translating my vision as best as the screen can allow.

Other than that, trying to play catch up on the real job and taking it easy.

Almost forgot! My short story, “Worry Stone” was submitted to another press. WOOT! The press that accepted it first had no idea what they were doing. No updates, not even a peep from the editor. IMHO, the editor is in the wrong line of business. I’m very happy with who I submitted it to and I look forward to hearing back from them. “Worry Stone” happens to be one of my favorite tales, as well as those who critique my work before submission. Unlike the original press that accepted it, this one actually pays pro-rates. Yay! So wish me luck folks! I hope I make the cut. If I don’t, no worries. I know this tale will find a great home soon. ; )

So what is new in your neck of the woods? Feel free to sound off!

Stay tuned for more updates as they come down the pipe-line. = )

Worry over “Worry Stone”

Howdy, friends! Come on in and have a seat. Would you like some iced tea?

Well it appears the publisher is having a lot of problems with the anthology this story was slated to be released in. I have pulled it and it is currently looking for a good home.  Worry Stone happens to be a favorite of mine and I can’t wait until it is unleashed upon the world! <-Evil laugh ensues.

Closure comes to my health issues

I am ecstatic to report that as of last, Thursday, the new specialists finally got to the bottom of what has been plaguing me for so long.

I am very happy with the new practice, their staff and their diagnosis. They ruled everything out, and I do mean EVERYTHING.

All I need is the proper anti-biotic and a month of its use and I’ll be as fit as a fiddle. Words cannot express how happy I am that this charade is finally over and good health is around the bend for good ol’ Ben.

This came at a huge price of course… health is more important than anything though so I’m not concerned with those petty matters.

I just wanted to let all my dear friends know, who have supported me and helped through these tough times: Thank you! You have my un-dying gratitude and, drum roll please… it is finally over. = )

You guys are the best friends anyone could ask for. Your love, support and guidance will never be forgotten.

Just a Hiccup

Health updates and more!

Hello friends!

Have a seat. Sit a spell. As I ramble, here have some tea. = )

As most of you know, the first round of tests came back negative. Which is good, but also bad. Bad because we still don’t know the root cause of an issue that is two years old. So this may take a few months before it is over. Which I so long for. More tests are scheduled and I’m sure more will follow suit.

Trust me, whatever it is, I highly doubt it is life threatening. I feel that once we find the culprit, managing it will be an easy task. ; ) I’m sick and tired of shit from Lovecraft novels coming out of my body. ROFL.

If and when there is information worthy of posting, I will. I deeply appreciate everyone’s support and love. You, my friends are the best.

First, my mouse died. Well, it works but the O/S is practically not usuable. So I was going to hit Best Buy and get a new one tomorrow. Man, you guys should see what it does when I open Word. Writing is difficult to say the least. Then my PC started doing weird, odd things. I ran a HDD diagnostic, and yep, I need a new hard drive. LOL… Guess I’ll be picking up one of those as well. So, I prepared a eulogy:

You have been a good hard drive. I bought you five years ago and you haven’t failed me yet… until now. No no, I know it’s not your fault. Your mean time between failure is rated in the millions! Five years is your lifespan and you gave it. Mouse, what can I say about you? You only gave two years! I want my money back!

B

I don’t want to scare anyone, but I will be away for awhile…

My friends,

I’ll make this as short as possible. I don’t want to scare anyone.

I will be away for an undetermined amount of time. I had an emergency visit today to the clinic, and I am very, very ill. I am waiting for test results, and if they are as bad as what I found out today, I’ll be under-going surgery.

All I do ask is that you please keep me in your thoughts and prayers as I go through this extremely, painful (emotionaly and physically) difficult time.

My friends, you are the best a person could ask for and I deeply apreciate your support and help. I will try and keep everyone updated as much as possible.

Sincerely,

Ben
